Why I am running….

I am running in this race to ensure that there is a future for America. Under the Obama, Pelosi and Green administration time is running out for America. We need strong leadership to navigate America back on a pathway of prosperity and economic power. Our government believes it knows what’s best for us and is neglecting our voices. I say they are wrong. While Congress is enjoying a nice pay raise and other benefits the American family is struggling to put food on the table, paying their mortgage and sending their children to school. And now Congress wants to levy a National Energy Tax on America. This is wrong and heartless. I will fight to stop all future taxes and socialized programs. My name is Roy Morales and I ask for your vote. I am the only candidate in this race that can beat Gene Green in November.

  1. Economy

The number one issue in America is our depressed economy. According to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are more than 31 million people unemployed. See the interactive map of of our current unemployment situation
    (The Geography of a Recession)
. The solution to get America moving again is to reduce taxes, remove over regulation and roll back the government’s budget. These actions will stimulate our free enterprise system. It will grow our economy and put people back to work. Businesses and families will have an opportunity to invest in America again. Government needs to stop their frivolous spending and roll back the budget so that money can be given back to taxpayers. People stimulate the economy not government. The people should be allowed to spend their money when and where they choose, not GOVERNMENT.

  2. CAP and TRADE

I strongly oppose CAP AND TRADE. This National Energy Tax Bill will break the backs of Texans, especially Congressional District 29. With added costs businesses will have no choice but to lay off workers or shut down. Higher electricity costs will affect every consumer especially those on fixed incomes. The increase of 60 to 90 cents per gallon of gas will devastate your paycheck and destroy our economy.

  3. Energy and Environment

I believe in the Institute for Energy Research’s principle “that free markets provide the most efficient and effective solutions to the world’s energy and environment challenges.” First, we must become an energy independent Nation again by using all of our traditional energy resources and new alternative energy sources. We must drill for oil and gas where it makes sense not where Congress tells us to drill. I will say yes to drill in ANWR which will produce 1 million barrels of oil a day and create over 750,000 jobs. I will push for new clean coal burning plants and the mining of oil shale. Every state must play a role and not just a select few. I will say “No” to Kyoto and “No” to mandatory carbon emissions controls. I also believe we should strive to be good environmental stewards of our planet by allowing industry to develop more cost effective alternative energy sources like wind, solar, nuclear, geothermal, hydroelectric and hydrogen.

  4. Healthcare Reform

I strongly oppose Obamacare and socialized medicine. These programs have hidden costs while taking away your critical health coverage. I pledge to work to implement solutions for healthcare that allow our free enterprise system to work while giving you the taxpayer optimum benefits.

  5. Tax Reform and Size of Government

I will fight to cut taxes and reduce the size of government. I will seek a solution to reform our tax code that eliminates the burden we all go through every April 15th. I’m the only candidate in this race that has a track record of public fiscal responsibility. As a School Trustee, I have been a fiscal watchdog at the Harris County Department of Education fighting for smaller government, lower taxes and reduced spending. I have played a major role in freezing and reducing your property tax bills while in office.

  6. Homeland Security

Congressional District 29 holds some of America’s most important resources in it’s boundaries like the Houston Ship Channel and Petrochemical plants. We need boots on the ground with strong leadership and proven experience during these critical times. I am the only candidate in this race that has a comprehensive understanding of our critical infrastructure and possible vulnerabilities. More importantly, by virtue of my former TOP SECRET clearances, I understand the capabilities of our enemies.

  7. National Defense/Foreign Policy

I strongly support a policy of Peace through Strength. We need to ensure that our men and women are properly trained and equipped to defend America. We need to ensure we are prepared to confront our future adversaries in the battlespace and not just on the battlefield. This means we start developing defensive and intelligence systems to protect us in the internet space as well as outer space. As a former military strategist, I know that war is an extension of foreign policy when everything else has failed. I believe that our National Strategy of foreign policy should always guide us down a road of mutual respect with other nations but at the end of the day we must always advocate for the American people. Congress must make sure that our foreign policy minimizes the exposure of our sons and daughters in battle. I will always make sure that every military operation includes an exit strategy with defined military objectives and timeline.

  8. Border Security and Immigration

I strongly support legal immigration and the rule of law. That has been America’s strength by cultivating different cultures from around the world. In order to encourage legal immigration we must first secure ALL of our borders. This action will protect us from undesirables like drug smugglers, human traffickers and terrorists. Second, we must remove the practices and policies that encourage illegal immigration. I will say no to amnesty and yes to English as our official language.

  9. Space and Technology

Once upon a time, our nation had a dream to send a man to the moon and return him safely. Soon the dream turned to delivering satellite payloads into space on a reusable space vehicle. Now the vision to explore space and other celestial bodies are yet a fading dream. The cancellation of our future space transportation system will ultimately transform America into a third world country with loss of countless jobs. The Houston region will be devastated with high unemployment and home foreclosures. I will fight to restore our superiority in space and restore the thousands of jobs that will be lost to the cancellation of the Constellation program. I also support a National Aerospace Plane that will revolutionize air/space travel. Our high tech products used today are the result of technological developments of our space program. Just imagine where China’s and Russia’s technology will be in the future as a result of their robust space programs and where our technology development will be without a space program. We must continue to push the envelope of space and technology if we wish to have a strong economy and dominance in space.

  10. Second Amendment

I strongly support the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution that guarantees an individual’s right to keep and bear arms that applies to all Americans regardless of where they live in the United States. I agree that no records should be maintained on any lawful gun buyer. I will support opening more public land for hunting and fishing.

  11. Pro-Life

I strongly support the sanctity of life and the rights of the unborn. I will oppose government funding for abortions and partial-birth abortions. We need to promote and encourage adoption and abstinence.

  12. Marriage

I strongly support marriage between a man and woman.

  13. Education

As a Harris County School Trustee, I am passionate about the education of our children. The dropout rate in Harris County is too high. The problem is that the federal government has too much involvement with educating our children and the parents are not involved enough. The Federal government must give education back to the parents, school districts and the states. Nowhere in our Constitution does it say that the government has a role to fund or control schools. Local government and parents should have the final say in educating their children not the federal government. I believe that tax credits should be given to parents to assist in the cost of their children attending public, private, parochial, religious, and home schools. I also believe that our teachers should receive tax credits to ease their financial burden and to allow them to focus on excelling as educators.

  14. Veterans

As a retired Lt. Colonel, I understand the sacrifices the men and women of our armed services and their families endure every day. Not enough can be said about their service to our country and the duty they perform for all of us every day. All servicemembers deserve our gratitude and help when they return home. They deserve the best medical care, education benefits, housing placement, job training, etc. The one important item we should always remember when sending our sons and daughters off in harm’s way is that, as leaders, we should reduce their exposure to the traumatic effects of war. Our warriors should always have the proper equipment, training and supplies to wage battle. But most importantly, our troops need a strategy of winning and exiting safely when the mission is complete.

  15. Death Penality

I’m in support of the Death Penalty. The best way to deter crime is to enforce existing laws. The Death Penalty is an effective deterrent.
